Hut 8 Partnership

Hut 8 Corp., a leading energy-infrastructure and data center platform, has announced a strategic partnership with Anthropic and Fluidstack. This collaboration aims to accelerate the deployment of large-scale artificial intelligence (AI) data center infrastructure across the United States. This groundbreaking collaboration is positioned to deliver between 245 megawatts (MW) and up to 2,295 MW of dedicated AI data center capacity. This capacity will enable next-generation AI computing.

Strategic AI Infrastructure Partnership to Fuel Hyperscale Computing

Under the multi-tranche agreement, Hut 8 will begin the deployment at its River Bend campus in Louisiana. They will launch the first phase with 245 MW of IT capacity supported by 330 MW of utility power. Future phases include rights for up to 1,000 MW of additional capacity at River Bend. Additionally, 1,050 MW more will be accessible across Hut 8’s wider development pipeline. This framework reflects the surge in demand for GPU-powered AI workloads from model developers and cloud providers.

The partnership leverages Fluidstack’s high-performance compute clusters along with Anthropic’s AI expertise. This collaboration aims to deliver robust infrastructure for training and running AI models efficiently at scale.

Power-First Approach Meets AI Demand

“At its core, scaling frontier AI infrastructure is a power challenge,” said Asher Genoot, CEO of Hut 8. Hut 8’s power-first, innovation-driven model enables the rapid origination and development of greenfield sites. These sites are capable of meeting the energy-intensive demands of AI compute workloads. The collaboration with Anthropic and Fluidstack aligns energy access, data center design, and compute deployment into a unified delivery ecosystem.

James Bradbury, Head of Compute at Anthropic, emphasized that the partnership builds on existing work with Fluidstack. Furthermore, it provides the necessary runway to bring expanded capacity online by early 2027. Fluidstack CEO Gary Wu noted the importance of designing, deploying, and operating foundational compute infrastructure. This is vital for the advancement of leading AI labs.

Significant Market Impact and Industry Momentum

Following the announcement, Hut 8’s stock experienced notable gains in pre-market trading. This reflects investor optimism about the company’s AI infrastructure strategy and its shift from traditional bitcoin mining operations. The AI data center initiative aligns with broader industry trends. Former crypto-centric firms are pivoting to serve the booming AI compute market.

Industry analysts highlight that the deal includes a 15-year lease arrangement valued at approximately $7 billion for the initial 245 MW capacity. There is potential to exceed $17 billion if expansion options are exercised. The agreement also benefits from a financial backstop provided by Google. This emphasizes broad ecosystem engagement in supporting AI infrastructure growth.

Hyperscale AI Deployment

The multi-phase partnership sets the stage for Hut 8 to expand its footprint in AI infrastructure. This positions the company to support next-generation compute workloads and widen its customer base beyond cryptocurrency applications. Projected delivery timelines target early 2027 for initial capacity. Hut 8’s platform strategy combines energy access, scalable data center capacity, and strategic AI partnerships. This combination aims to meet market needs in an era of increasing AI adoption.
