# Memecoin glossary
Clear definitions for common terms in memecoin markets, on-chain reporting and internet culture.

## Memecoin
A cryptocurrency token whose identity or community is strongly shaped by an internet meme, joke or online culture. A memecoin’s popularity does not establish its utility, safety or value.

## Token contract
Code deployed to a blockchain that defines a token’s behavior, such as its supply, transfer rules and permissions. Verify a contract address through independent project and blockchain sources.

## Market capitalization
A commonly reported estimate calculated by multiplying a token’s current price by its circulating supply. Different providers may use different supply figures; it does not show how much money can be withdrawn from a market.

## Liquidity
Assets available in a trading pool or order book to facilitate buying and selling. Low or concentrated liquidity can cause large price changes and make it difficult to exit a position.

## Slippage
The difference between an expected trade price and the price at which the trade executes. Thin liquidity, volatility and large orders can increase slippage.

## Rug pull
A broad term for a deceptive or abusive project action that causes participants to lose funds, often involving withdrawn liquidity, hidden contract controls or misleading claims. Investigations should distinguish verified evidence from allegations.

## Bonding curve
A mathematical pricing mechanism that changes a token’s price as supply is bought or sold. Launch platforms may use bonding curves before a token moves to a separate liquidity pool.

## On-chain activity
Transactions recorded on a public blockchain. Wallet labels and interpretations can be incomplete, and a transaction alone may not prove who controls an address or why it acted.
